Evered Cohen was born and raised in San Francisco. He attended George Washington High School and graduated in 1965. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army was wounded in action in the Republic of Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1968 and was awarded prestigious ribbons and badges including the Purple Heart and the (CIB) Combat Infantry Badge.
Evered returned to work for Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Co, and attended college at San Jose State University, where he received a BA in Broadcast Journalism. While attending SJSU, he met his wife Loretta. They have 5 daughters, three granddaughters and a grandson.
After being a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior for over 25 years, Pastor Evered answered God's call and became an ELCA ordained minister of Word and Sacrament and pastor of Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Although it was a long road to ordination, he believes God was leading him to achieve that goal. He admits after retiring from the telephone company, he would have never thought it possible, but it is his hope, and with God's help, to play a role in the revival of "Our Savior" and shepherd a growing flock of God's people into a new beginning.
Pastor Evered says:
"My thoughts, words and deeds are the only ways I know to worship God. My heart envisions a world where every person is of value no one is discounted or discarded. Our whole purpose is to serve God and care for one another. There should be no hunger in a world of plenty. There would be no war in a world of peace."
